Our Mission
First Baptist Church exists to passionately promote the glory of God’s name through the extension of Christ’s Lordship in the New Testament church throughout the world (Romans 1:1-5; Philippians 2:5-11; Matthew 28:19-20) via the evangelization of the lost, the edification of the saved, the establishment of vital churches, and the expansion of God’s salvific rule over the people groups of all nations (1 Corinthians 1:17; Colossians 1:28-29; Romans 12:4-8): “That the Word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored” (2 Thessalonians 3:1).
Our Desire
First Baptist Church of Troy is committed to God and His Word above all else. The ministries of First Baptist Church of Troy are grounded in the Word of God and designed to foster spiritual growth. Our ministries are focused on edification, evangelism, and fellowship.
We want the people of First Baptist to be grounded in the Word of God and skilled in applying its principles to daily living. Classes for children, teens, and adults offer age-appropriate instruction from the Bible.
Our members are actively involved in church ministries; serving each other through music, teaching children and young people, visiting the home-bound and needy, and reaching out into the community with the Gospel. Come see where you can fit into the First Baptist family.
Our Practice
First Baptist Church of Troy is…
Non-Affiliated – We belong to no denominational organization.
Baptist – We believe in the great Baptist distinctives, such as:
- Verbal inspiration of the Scripture
- Believer’s baptism by immersion
- Priesthood of the believer
- Autonomy of the local church
- Separation of church and state
- Regenerate church membership
Biblical – Everything we believe and teach comes from the Word of God.
Separated – We are separated ecclesiastically from apostate groups such as the World Council of Churches and the National Council of Churches and from compromise movements such as New Evangelicalism; and we are separated personally from that which the Bible forbids, applying biblical principles in a manner pleasing to God (1 Thessalonians 4:1-8, Ephesians 4:1, Colossians 1:9-12).
God-Centered – We believe that God is the sovereign creator and sustainer of all things and should be worshiped accordingly (Romans 11:34).
Evangelistic – We encourage every Christian to win lost souls to Christ in obedience to Scriptural command and pattern (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8).
Missions-Minded – We support believers (from our congregation and others) who are trained to establish and aid New Testament churches in our nation as well as across the world.
Teaching – We are committed to the instruction and encouragement of the children of God.
Orthodox – We earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints.
Conservative – We hold to a time-honored hymnology and practice modesty in deportment and dress.
